I think I may have carpal tunnel from all of the cutting and pasting that I have been doing in order to move all of these journals over to the new site. Im not QUITE ready to unveil it yet but I am getting there. I really like it though. So here is a Pierce funny and this will likely be the last journal update here until I post the new site....
Last night Pierce reminded me that LAST year his maw maw told him that we would probably only have our pop up for a year and then maybe get a bigger one (thanks Mom). He then proceeded to inform me that it was now 2010 and where was his bigger camper. Awesome.
Please read the post below if you have not already
Fear not! I have already found a new home for the kids website. I think I even like it better than this site. Im in the process of moving all of the stuff over and once I do I will get the link out. Even if it IS just for my Aunt Debbie and Joy! The new site has lots of cool features that I am really liking so stay tuned!
The kids need a new home. Any takers? Oh wait...not THAT kind of home. They need a new internet home. I received an email from the About My Baby site that they are closing shop later this year. This pretty much sucks because I have 6 years of journals, photos, and videos tucked away here. Thankfully the pics and videos are kept a million other places (printed, shutterfly, external hard drive) So I am not worried about that part....just the journal stuff. So, I am working on finding a new place for the kids page. Once I get it up and running I will probably just cancel this so I am not paying for 2 places. Im not sure who all still checks in here but I wont shut this site down without having a new one up and posting it here. Sigh....moving 6 years of journal updates is going to really stink.
Back to routine for us today. Pierce enjoyed his first ever Christmas break and was a little bummed about having to go back to school today. Which probably really means he will be going through Nintendo DS detox. The kids both slept late (for them) for the last 4 days and were both a little hard to wake up this morning.
A few days after Christmas Mallory received a card in the mail from my cousin Jamie. She has been asked to be a flower girl in her wedding this coming Sept. I told her and she talks about sprinkling flowers but of course I am WAY more excited about it than she is at this point. I cant wait to see my little girl all dolled up in a flower girl dress! She will be almost 4 and a half by then and I think (hope) she will do very well.
Whew, 3 Christmas celebrations down and now we are buried under empty boxes, those darn wires that are on every gift and wrapping paper. Everywhere. I honestly don''t know where we will put it all. Christmas Eve was spent with my side of the family as usual. It is fun being on the grown up side of it watching all of the little kids tear through their presents. Highlights at my mom''s were a stuffed Perry the Platypus from my parents for Pierce (from a Disney show) and a visit from Santa where Mallory told him that she wanted a boat. My mom''s cousin Mike is a very talented woodworker and he made all of the little girls in the family beautiful cradles that his wife Cindy put beautiful little amish quilts in for their babies. This cradle will be around for a long time Im sure! Extra cuteness at my mom''s this year came in the form of my cousin Brad''s 7 month old baby Madilyn and my mom''s puppy Bella (that she puts clothes on).
This morning the kids actually slept until about 7. We did the Santa thing and Mallory was so happy to see her easel and her paint and Pierce scored his Nintendo DS....and talked about it and played it all. day. long. We headed to Joe''s mom and dad''s for our final leg of Christmas and the kids were spoiled there as well. Joe and I are sitting on the couch surrounded by STUFF and thankfully have 2 more days off work to put it all away.
A Pierce funny for you....
Friday on our way home from school we were singing Christmas carols. I was throwing songs out and he was singing them for me. So I tell him to sing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and he starts out with the normal "You''d better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout Im telling you why" and then.....he busts out with SAAAAAAAAAANTA Claus is coming to town. Ala Bruce Springsteen. Yep, my 6 year old thinks that the Bruce Springsteen version is the one that everyone sings. Thank you Sunny 95 radio which is what both kids listen all night in their bedrooms.
We are busy getting ready for Christmas!! Last weekend Pierce got to see Santa at the base. Mallory did not make it because she had been sick but I dont think she even knew which was good for us! He does not know it of course but Pierce is getting the Nintendo DS that he wants to badly.
It is all he talks about and we keep telling him we hope Santa brings it! Mallory has asked for "An easel, a palate, paints, and a pink and purple smock" The pink and purple smock was a bit of the pain to find but Santa Mommy was victorious! I cannot wait until Christmas morning! They will both be so excited.
Pierce has his first sleepover on Sat night with a little friend in his class at school. The mom is a teacher there too so that makes me feel a little bit better about the situation but Im still nervous as all get out about him staying there.
That is pretty much all that is going on in our world. Pierce continues to do really well in school, I am SO proud of him.
oops, it has been awhile hasnt it? Lots has happened over the past few weeks. Football is over, Pierce did really well with it and was SO proud of his trophy. I had his first parent teacher conf and was so happy with how he is doing and how well he behaves in her class.
This year for halloween Pierce was a skeleton. It was his first time being something "scary" and he picked it out all by himself. Mallory was a butterfly and I got lots of compliments on her costume. Pierce will be 6 on Wed and we had his party at the World of Bounce yesterday. So many kids were there! It was awesome to have his best friends from day care come since they all had not seen each other since Aug and he also had new friends from school there too. Uploaded those pics, halloween pics and also Mallory''s school pics!!
Joe and I are just climbing out of quarantine which accounts for the lack of updates. We both got hit pretty hard with bronchitis last week and pretty much laid around like we were going to die for 7 straight days. That said we have not really done much that is worthy of journaling about here! Until yesterday! Pierce had his 3rd flag football game yesterday and he is really doing well with it! I think we have finally found something that he really likes to do! We have had a few instances (propelled by excitement Im sure) such as him pulling the flag off of his own team player (hey, he had the ball) and running the wrong way with the ball (he was running very fast). Yesterday he scored 2 touchdowns!! I wish Mallory had as much excitement for the cheerleading that we paid $100 for her to NOT do. She cheered one time and informed me that she does not like it and wants to just watch Pierce. A little piece of me dies every time I see those tiny little cheerleaders shaking their pom poms darnit. She does however love her dance class thank God. Not much else going on at our house!!
Disney pics still coming.....darnit!!
This past weekend was crazy busy! Sat I took the kids to this place called World of Bounce. Think inflatable land....it was SO fun. We were there for almost 3 hours and the kids did not speak one word on the way home they were so tired. We are going to have Pierce''s birthday party there. Sat night we headed over Joe''s sister''s to celebrate his mom and dad''s 45th wedding anniv. As usual Pierce and Mallory had a blast playing with all of their cousins. Mallory LOVES her some Emma that is for sure. Sunday was Pierce''s first flag football game! It was kind of a crazy day for me because Joe was at drill and I was running back and forth between flag football and cheerleading. I did not even take the camera because I knew it would be nuts with just me there. I love the coaches, they are so nice and patient with the kids. Also good about rotating all the kids in and through the different positions. They dont even keep score...BUT....Pierce got a touchdown!!!! He was sooooo excited! Across the field was little Mallory with her pom poms that were bigger than her head. Cheerleading is a work in progress I think but MAN she looks cute!
We just got back from Disney today and we had an awesome time!!!! We stayed at the Carribean Beach Resort and probably could have stayed there all week and had just as much fun. The pool there was AWESOME!! A huge kids area and then a really big adult pool with 2 water slides that Pierce played on non stop. Mallory even loved the slides in the kid area. It was SO hot this past week, humidity almost killed us I think. The kids looooooved Disney. This was really the first time she will remember and she just freaked out every time she saw one of her "friends" but mostly of course Mickey himself and luckily we got to see him 3 different times. We hit all of the major rides and Pierce was big enough to do some of the bigger rides this time. He rode Big Thunder Mtn at Disney which he really liked and then Expidition Everest at Animal Kingdom which scared the CRAP out of him. 2 favorites for him were the Buzz Lightyear ride at MK and then a new Toy Story ride at MGM. The night show at MGM was the best show I have seen at all the parks. We are home, unpacked with tons of laundry and super wiped out. Disney is a vacation that really needs another vacation to recover!
Mallory started dance class last night. It is a combo class with tap, ballet and tumbling. I just may die from the cuteness. I took some pics through the glass so they are not all that great but you can still see them. She looked SO adorable in her little tutu!! Pierce is still doing really well in school. He is started to read more and more sight words which I love and he continues to stay on the "good colors" of the ladder for his behavior. Getting him to tell me what he does all day is like pulling teeth. We leave Sunday for Disney!!
Pierce was "drafted" onto his flag football team yesterday. The league uses the names of real NFL teams and his team is the Cowboys. Joe was hoping for the Bears or the Eagles. Mallory also got called up with all the other little girls and introduced as cheerleaders. It was so stinking cute! I did not get pictures because it was SO crowded there.
Wow, it has been a MINUTE since I have updated this site. We have been so busy!! Pierce is still loving school. He has not once gone "down" on the ladder of behavior....keeps going up to blue and purple. His teacher has told me a few times that he is is so good in her class. He is starting to have papers sent home and is scoring perfectly on most of them. I love seeing his class work (probably the part of me that never stopped wanting to be an elem teacher). He is making some new friends (thankfully NOT the kids who are going down on the behavior ladder every day). I need to get the pictures up from last weeks Pre-K graduation at the day care. Joe and I still wanted him to be a part of that with all his little Pre-K friends. These next few weeks will be pretty busy, Pierce will be starting flag football through NFLOhio and Mallory will be a little cheerleader for his team. Mallory also starts dance lessons in a few weeks and in a little over 2 weeks we head to Disney!!!
The first few days of Kindergarten have been great for Pierce. He really likes his school and his teacher. He is making new friends and working his way to owning the place just like he did his daycare. He also went with me to pick up Mallory today and all his teachers and friends were happy to see him. His friends acted like they had not seen him in years instead of since last Thursday. Pics of school and camping are uploaded!
Pierce is officially a kindergartner! Joe and I dropped him off this morning. He was not nervous or anything. Walked right in, hung his backpack up, found his seat and was ready to go. He looks SO stinking cute in his little uniform! I do have pics, I will get them up tonight. Hopefully will have a "1st day" update tomorrow!
We went camping over the weekend. The campground that we were at was awesome, great pool and a beautiful spring lake that was crystal clear! The kids went swimming and fishing and had a fun time playing with their cousins. Mallory is in love with my Uncle Mike and would not leave him alone all weekend! We also discovered that smores made with reese''s peanut butter cups are just as good as the originals! I will get all of the pics up tonight!
Tonight Joe and I are taking Pierce to kindergarten orientation! Did I not just have him yesterday? I cannot believe he is starting school next week...both because I cannot believe he is that old AND I cannot believe his school starts 2 weeks before all the other schools. We are all excited to meet his teacher and see his classroom. Mallory is going to go hang out with Aunt Brelle and fam and play with the puppies while we are doing school stuff. Poor thing asked me if she was going to "stay there for a lot of days". Apparently she remembers when we left her there for our DC trip. Camping this weekend! Im sure stories and pictures will follow!
On Friday I learned just how much fun it will be the first time Mallory gets her heart broken by a boyfriend or some boy is mean to her in high school. Apparently a little girl that Pierce does not care much for decided that it would be a good idea to run over HIS little sister on the play ground with a tricycle. He came up to tell me as soon as I got out to the playground to pick them up. Then he ran off and proceeded to start kicking her while she was on the swing. She started to swat back at him. It ended as quickly as it started and one of the teachers was trying to get him to say he was sorry which he would not do. Apparently because he was not sorry. I did tell him that I liked that he was trying to stick up for his little sister but that it is not okay to hit or kick other kids. Wonder how many more times I will have to have THAT talk with him?
Last weekend we went to the Kalahari compliments of a Christmas gift card from Joe''s sister Jen and family. Pierce loves it there and has so much fun going down the water slides in the "big kid" area. He was actually big enough to go down some grown up slides but being that he can''t swim and some of them were fast enough to make ME nervous we stuck to the kid areas. Last year Mallory wanted nothing to do with it for the most part. This year she actually played in the toddler area and went down a few of the slides. I could not believe it! Since last year they also added a "safari" area with Kangaroos, Giraffes, Zebras and some other animals. We got to touch them and feed them apples, and carrots and the kids went on a pony ride. In other news...Mallory was supposed to start pre-school today. Pre-School is just down the hall from her toddler class. She has been telling me all about how she is going to preschool and knew it was supposed to be today. This morning she told me she would go in 5 days. I had to drop her off in the toddler class where she was attached to Ms Nikki like a koala bear stuck to it''s mommy. Nikki was certain that she would get her down to Pre School eventually but I was not putting any money down. We will try again tomorrow.
We made it home!! Missing the beach already! Well, 3 out of 4 of us are Im sure. We stopped half way in Mt Airy like we normally do. Thought about going to see the fireworks but both kids were asleep by 9 so that did not so much happen. I have about 3/4 of the pics up but need to get the rest of them uploaded tonight. Back at work/day care today. Boooooo
Today is our last day at the beach. Tomorrow we stop half way in Mt Airy and hopefully take in some fireworks there. The last few days have been just as nice as the first half of the week. We have had awesome weather and the water has been soooo nice. Today Mallory FINALLY got a little bit wet. Not much though. She let me take her down to where the water was just stopping and sat on my lap and let the water get our feet wet. And seriously....that is IT. She did like when I dug her a "puddle" to sit and play in. Today we ended up playing with some of the little fish that come up with the waves. Some people who had caught them let us have 3 of them in a bucket and the kids thought that was super fun. Mallory kept reaching in and picking them up. We set them loose in our puddle for awhile and they both laughed while they swam around them. Hoping we have a nice uneventful and PEACEFUL ride home this weekend.
Holden Beach Day 4
After our daily trip down to the water to torture Mallory we came back and headed into Myrtle Beach. Mallory actually DID enjoy the beach a tiny bit more today....she let me dig her a little puddle that she sat in with me....for about 15 minutes. After lunch we went into Barefoot Landing to do some of our "must" shopping which includes the Peanut Shop and the winery there....YUM...this year Im bringing back a Mango and Pomegranate wine which is new!! Pierce got to ride the bull thingy again. (funny, they said that 5 is the minimum age but he rode it 2 years ago). We had some time before dinner so we went down to Broadway at the Beach to kill time there and they have some fun shops too. After a SUPER yummy dinner we hit one of the crazy looking putt putt places in Myrtle Beach that actually had a little train ride to the top of the course. It was fun but we only made it a little over half way through because it was SO crowded and getting late enough that the kids were starting to act like they had lost their minds. They actually slept in this morning!!!
Holden Beach Day 3
Today Mallory LOVED the ocean!! Okay, no she didnt. In fact she may have hated it more today than yesterday. Pierce slept until 8AM today!!!! Holy moly that never happens! After our bonus sleep in day and breakfast we headed back down to the water for a few hours. Pierce of course loved every single second of it, Mallory not so much. She did let me carry her down to the very edge and sit with her while she maintained a death grip on me. That lasted about 10 minutes and then it was back under the umbrella to play in the sand. Joe spent most of the day down at the ocean with Pierce....that boy has GOT to be sacked out in bed now....we just put them down about 10 minutes ago. Tonight after dinner we took them putt putting....it was Mallory''s first time playing and she actually did really well....I mean she cheated like it was her job but she was able to hit the ball and eventually get it in the hole. Pierce even got a hole in one!!
Holden Beach Day 2
Another beeeee-u-teee-ful day at the beach! We headed down to the water again and once again Mallory refused to set a foot in it. She sat in a chair or in the sand under the umbrella and scowled at the water every so often. She was content to just sit there and play in the sand and bury my feet. Pierce on the other hand.....whole different story. He loves the ocean! Joe takes him out to about his waist and just holds on to him and helps him jump the waves. He would seriously do that all day long if we would let him. Of course he has already made a little friend....big shock that she has blond hair and blue eyes right...They actually went back later in the day and played again. That time Princess No Beach and I stayed back at the house. Joe had picked her up a little baby pool and she just played in that while I sat and read my book. She SAYS tomorrow she will get her feet wet in the ocean....I will believe it when I see it. Joe took Pierce to walk out on the pier while Mallory (and I) were napping. He thought it was pretty cool that it went out into the ocean. Tomorrow more of the same! We have some "running" to do later this week to hit the places we go to every year!
Hello from the beach!!! Yeah for Wi Fi here at the beach house so I dont have to do one LONG recap after our trip. The kids did not kill each other (barely)on our drive down. They also did not fall asleep until about 10 last night and talked the ENTIRE time. We stopped halfway and then got here to Holden Beach around one today. We took a quick trip to the beach where it was confirmed that Mallory hates the ocean. I picked her up, put one foot down at the very edge where the water barely was and she FREAKED and said "GET ME OUTTA HERE" After that she would not come near the water but she did decide that shell collecting is pretty cool. Pierce of course still loves the water...we will have a good week even if her majesty stays dry all week!
Joe and I had a wonderful, awesome, fantastic time in DC and Pierce and Mallory has a wonderful, awesome, fantastic time with Aunt Brelle and fam, Aunt Jen and fan, and Bumma and Pa. Im going to get some pictures of our week up here since a few of you that check in here (Grandpa, Uncle Tom, Aunt Deb) are not on facebook which is where most of the pics are. Be warned....we took TONS. We will never again get to experience the things that we did last week....lots of behind the scenes tours that not just anyone gets to go on. We truly were treated like rock stars just like promised. We were SO tired by the end of the week though! Im SO very proud of Joe for the awesome award and the example that he sets for those who look up to him in the military!
A funny conversation that I had with Pierce this morning:
This morning Mallory was sitting up on the counter and while I was putting her hair up she was holding a lemon and she smelled it. I asked her if she could smell it and Pierce busts out with the following:
"Mommy if you smell something that means it smells bad"
"No bud, if you smell something it can smell either good OR bad and if something smells bad sometimes we say it stinks"
"oh, well the lemon does not stink"
"nope, lemons smell good"
"well you know what DOES stink?"
We had a really good day yesterday! Started off taking the kids to see Up at the movies. It was Mallory''s first time in the movie theater and she did better than I thought she would. Im not sure she really got what it was about but she still seemed to like it. Pierce loved it of course. Later in the day we packed up the bike and the tricycle and headed to the park. Took some good pics, took some not so good pics. Before we left the park we stopped right by a little creek that is there and there was a family there that were catching crawdads.....they were BIG. They had an entire aquarium full of them and the guy kept pulling them out for the kids to see. Pierce would touch them and he thought they were pretty cool....Mallory of course squealed like the girl she is. I think she touched one and then freaked out. They also had a HUGE tadpole and they both touched that. It was really cute to see how excited they both were. This is our last week home before leaving for DC on Sat. Im getting nervous as to how Mallory will do 6 days without us. Pierce I know will be fine and will love playing with his cousins. Mallory could be an entire different story.....
Our first camping weekend is under our belt and was awesome! We had great weather and the kids had so much fun! I was impressed that even Mallory loved it. Our pop up was perfect for us, we stayed warm, dry and free of bugs! When we needed to take the kids to the potty or wanted to go chill in comfort we headed over to my mom''s "house on wheels" right across the street. We were right in front of the park and the kids (and my little cousin Autumn who camps with my aunt and uncle) were able to run back and forth from the park to all of our campers and we could see them wherever we were sitting. The pool was sooo nice (not that Joe would agree) and Pierce spent a lot of time swimming and jumping into the water. Mallory barely got in but she did allow herself to get a little bit wet. We made S''mores and had some awesome dinners cooked out! Pics are uploaded in the May album....I forgot the good camera and was lucky to have the little one in my purse so the pictures are not as good as I would have liked them to be. Also new pics added from a few weeks ago when the kids and I went and had a playdate with Rachel and Lily Curtis.
Mallory had her 3 year old checkup today (I figured a birthday Dr visit was okay seeing as no shots were needed). I am SO happy to report that she is FINALLY on the chart for her weight....she is at the 5th percentile which is WAY better than the -5th she was at last year. She is TALL though....35 inches tall puts her in the 60th%. She also had her eyes tested and she was 20/20. I did ask about her nasty little fits and he told us that we pretty much have until she is 5 to get it under control or we won''t like her much as a teenager. Super.
Last weekend we had Mallory''s 3rd birthday party. We celebrated at the same park that we had it at last year and were lucky enough to have the same awesome weather. A few of Mallory''s little school friends were there and of course family and my friends. Joe made (yes, JOE) her cake this year and as much fun as I had teasing him about this it was AWESOME!!! 3 layer princess cake with homemade icing! Mallory and the kids loved it! Even though Mallory really does not turn 3 until this Friday you can''t tell her she is still 2.
Pierce is SUPER excited that we start camping in a few weeks.....Memorial Day weekend starts our summer of madness!
Mallory and her tantrums.....she delivered another one this morning.....one that had me close the windows in fear that the neighbors would call child services thinking she was being murdered. It lasted a good 20 minutes where I just kind of ignored her and eventually it was over.
So, my hands are full, Pierce, Mallory and I are heading downstairs to leave for the day when I realized that Mallory''s shoes were (for some reason) next to my bed. I asked Pierce if he would please go find them for me since I had other stuff in my hands and off he went to grab them. As soon as he catches up to us (and I should have known better) her majesty says "NO, I want to find them!!!!!!!"
Pierce looks in total annoyance at his sister. Drops them right there on the floor in the hallway and said...."There.....find them."
Pierce and Mallory just left the Dr for a quick shot visit. Pierce had to have his kindergarden shots (4!!) that he did not get at his 5 year and Mallory needed one more Hep A shot (since she IS going to college soon, stupid day care requirements). I was afraid that she was going to be all jaded about going to the Dr again since she has not had a shot in so long she does not remember them. She was a trooper!! Not a peep out of her. Pierce held it together until the last one which I guess was the one that was supposed to sting the most. I am very proud of him, I could not get 4 shots without crying at the end myself. The best news out of this apt was that Mallory weighs 25lbs!!! That is awesome! She has her 3 year checkup in a few weeks and I am interested in where she falls on those charts now. I know she has gotten taller!
We had a fun weekend. Poor Joe had to work on the nicest weekend of the year but we played outside at the sand table for awhile and Mallory had a birthday party to go to yesterday so Pierce hung out at Aunt Brelle''s for awhile until Joe picked him up.
There is a whole lot of nothing going on which explains the lack of updates. Thankfully the weather is getting nicer so we can get the kids outside more. Mallory has a birthday party to go to this weekend and I was thinking about taking the kids out to Dawe''s maybe before and taking some pictures. I told you....nothing going on.
We had a wonderful Easter weekend complete with TWO Easter egg hunts. The weather was awesome and the kids had a blast. Yesterday we had hunt #1 in Aunt Jen''s neighborhood. They got to see the Easter bunny there also! This morning started out with our power going out at about 6:45AM...would not be a holiday without loss of power it seems! We packed every one out and headed to my mom''s to get ready there. We spent Easter with my mom''s cousins in their beautiful house out in the country where Pierce, Mallory and my sister''s boys got to go on ANOTHER egg hunt. There were so many eggs that they all had to be assigned a color! All of the kids had a lot of fun and will probably be in a sugar coma shortly.
