I cant believe 2006 is almost over. This time last year I was still pregnant...Pierce was just now of out his crib and into a big boy bed, and no where near ready to be potty trained. Now, it seems like Mallory has ALWAYS been here and Pierce is more and more "little boy" and less toddler every day. The new things that come out of his mouth like "Check this out" and "Well actually...." keep Joe and I in hysterics. The boy talks non stop from SON up to SON down. In about 2 weeks Mallory will be 8 months old and that is only 4 months away from her being ONE. I can''t believe how quickly the time has gone with her. In addition to the big slobbery kisses that she loves to give she has also learned how to wave. She does not do the typical open/close hand that most babies start with....she goes with her entire arm. Pretty cute. Still shows no interest whatsoever in crawling...or getting a tooth for that matter. But that is okay...keeps my last baby a baby for just a little bit longer.
Wow, what a busy (and tiring) few days! The Onesto family had a great Christmas! Sat evening we headed out with the Onesto side for our annual Chinese dinner to celebrate Bumma''s birthday. Last night we headed out to my sister''s to celebrate Christmas with my side of the family. Pierce had tons of fun playing with Christian and Mallory had a lot of fun staring at Levi and vice versa. The kids both received a lot of nice presents from maw maw and paw paw and Aunt Lee Lee and Uncle Mitch. Pierce loves his new laptop that my mom got him! Today we spent the day with Joe''s side of the family and again chaos rules with 7 grandkids all playing together. Pierce loves his cousins and LOVES his Uncle Dave. They were spoiled again by grandparents and aunts and uncles. Pierce FINALLY got his Buzz Lightyear! I think the best part of Christmas for me this year was BEING Santa. We left cookies and carrots out (and ate them leaving behind some crumbs) and just seeing the look on his face when Pierce realized that Santa had came. Mallory just enjoyed eating the paper and playing with the bows. I will get the pictures downloaded as soon as I can...but not until Im done putting all my music on my new iPod!!
If you look in the Dec album there are 2 pictures of Mallory chewing on a little rubber fish. This is her most favorite posession in the entire world. When she sees it, she freaks out, laughs, squeals, ect. This little fish was an Easter gift from Bumma and Pa before she was even born. It came in a little set of squirty bath toys. It is so funny to see her go nuts over it.
I''ve been telling Pierce for a few days now that Christmas is not just Santa coming but that it is also Jesus''s birthday and that is why the day is special. Im also trying to teach him that it is also special to GIVE presents as well as receive them. So last night I got brave and was wrapping some of the gifts for the other kids in our family and he keeps asking me...."are those mine?" And I would say "No, this is a present that we are giving to so and so" I could tell he was trying to digest that not every gift in the world was not for HIM but that he was not too sure if he liked that idea. I guess the nature of a toddler is that the world revolves around them. Seeing as I''ve drilled "Happy birthday Jesus" into his head we can work on the other stuff next year.
We had a pretty busy weekend! Saturday night we headed to the zoo with Bumma and Pa to see the Christmas lights...a first for me too! It was SO pretty and amazing to me that they can get that many lights up and so high up in the trees! Pierce loved it, he really enjoys the zoo and thank you to Aunt Jen, Uncle Jay and the kids for getting our family the membership for Christmas! We bundled Mallory up so you could only see her little face poking out. She was an angel the entire time we were there! Sunday, Pierce and I headed to my sister''s house to do some holiday baking with my mom. We made a lot of the same things that she made us when we were kids so it was a fun trip back for me too! Pierce and Christian got to cut out cookies, and help ice and decorate them. He thought it was cool to put the coloring in the icing and watch it change colors. He also thought it was fun to lick the icing off of his fingers. I took quite a few pics over the weekend and I will try and get them downloaded soon. I keep trying to get some new ones of Lola but every time the camera comes out she tries to eat it.
Last night was State Farm''s kids Christmas party. State Farm does this every year, and they really put together a great event for the kids complete with a Santa visit and a really nice gift for each kid. To put it into perspective...I heard that about 700 kids went through last night and they all received a gift. Mallory got a peak-a-blocks set and Pierce got some action figure type toy. The kids both sat on Santa''s lap, no worries. Though I did get a few cute Mallory expressions that were like..."ummm, what''s with the beard" They also had there picture taken with Frosty....this year the role of Frosty was played by none other then my mother. So when Pierce was giving Frosty a hug and she whispered in his ear "Hi Pierce" He looks at me with big eyes and said.."It''s maw maw!!" Since he just recently dressed up for Halloween I was able to explain to him that Maw Maw was dressed as Frosty for the other kids. He thought that was pretty cool. Be sure to check out the look on Mallory''s face in the Frosty pic...again...she is saying "What''s with the big orange nose?"
I generally dont mind winter that much. Im not a big fan of cold and snow but I can deal. What I cant deal with is never ending sick kids. They seem to be just swapping it back and forth. One will get better, the other starts up again. So add that to a first year in daycare (thanks again for that Joy...HA) and we get non stop ickies. Im home with Mallory today. She has a fever, she is snotty, and just all around not so happy. She is still trying to fight off her cough. Can I please get some get well prayers for my babies? I just want everyone healthy for all of the fun holiday stuff coming up for our family! In happier news....We have a new addition to our family! Lola is an almost 7 week old beagle mix that we got last weekend. She is sweet, ornery, and rotten all wrapped up in the great smell of puppy breath. The kids love her, she loves the kids. She is learning that Scarlet is still in charge and that is actually going better then expected. I will add some pics of her over in album section. Try not to faint from the cutenes...
Last night Pierce "read" a story to Joe and I. His current favorite book is called There''s a Nightmare in My Closet". It is about a little boy who realizes that the scary things at night time sometimes are not really that scary after all. We''ve read this book so many times that Pierce has the pages memorized. Last night he sat between Joe and I and "read" the book to us. He got almost every word right! It was a very sweet moment for Joe and I. Who knows, maybe he will be an early reader and lover of books just like his mommy!
Finally Mallory appears to be able to sit up for longer then 10 seconds. Ms Shelly said that she sat on her own for 5 minutes today at school before she toppled over! Yeah Mallory! Tomorrow Pierce''s pre-school class has "share day" and he gets to bring in his favorite toy to talk about. He will be taking in his Stitch (stuffed animal) from the Lilo and Stitch movie. He takes that thing everywhere right now!
Pierce and Mallory had their 3 year and 6 month checkups today. Both are doing wonderful. Mallory still has a bit of a cold so she did not get any shots (a few more weeks) but Pierce got a flu shot and he was NOT happy about it. Once again I''ve managed to avoid seeing this and I made Joe deal with it....but he did come out crying and said to me "The Dr gave me a boo boo" And THIS is why I cant be there during the shot....I would cry right along with him. He did tell us that Pierce is way to smart for his own good and we should try and get him to learn things that he WONT learn the first few years of school because if he already knows all of that stuff he will be bored. Something like learning colors and numbers in another language or some art classes. Both kids were right on target as far as height and weight goes.
Yum, what a great dinner at Jen and Jay''s house today! Now I''m ready to put up my tree! And if you remember from last year....Pierce thinks that his daddy is responsible for all of the Christmas lights in the world so he will be VERY busy in the upcoming days. Pierce had fun playing with his cousins and Mallory had fun being the princess of the evening. We took the yearly Onesto family picture which I have added into the November album. We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and did not get too stuffed on food!
Mallory is giving kisses now! Those big open mouth nasty wet ones that only her mommy and daddy could possibly love. It is so cute because she will grab your face and just pull it towards you to plant one on. Yum!!
Wow, where have the last 6 months gone? Mallory is 6 months old today! Poor thing is also fighting her first real cold. I had her home yesterday and took her to see the Dr who said she could hear a slight wheeze. So she had her first breathing treatment (this all sounds SO familiar) She took it a lot better then Pierce did the first time...she crabbed a little, tried to eat the mask, then fell asleep. She sounds better today, still has a nasty cough and a runny nose though. Hopefully this will run it''s course in the next few days. Pierce is officially in pre-school now that he is 3. They started to transition him over the last few weeks and he did really well. Im kind of bummed because I had finally really gotten to know his teachers and the kids in his class and now I have to start all over and so does he. Rumor has it his little girlfriend Katie will be joining him in his new class in a few weeks when she turns 3. The teachers did tell Joe this morning that they will really miss him in their class and that there will never be another "Pierce"
Well we have finally settled down and cleaned up from Pierce''s party. Thank you to everyone who was here to celebrate Pierce turning 3. We had a great day and as always it is so nice to have friends and both of our families all here together. Pierce received a lot of nice gifts and had a great time playing with his cousins, and my friend Ruth''s little girl Lydia. Mallory was a trooper all day in her cheerleader outfit. She was passed around all over and went lights out at 6:15. Im sure that means I will be up bright and early tomorrow AM.
Pierce opened up presents from Joe and I and from Mallory this morning. Mallory got him the Cars movie. Well of course it is already on. Joe and I were on the couch and Pierce was at his little table eating and watching the movie. He looked over at Mallory in her swing and really quietly said...."Mallory, thank you for my movie"
Please pass the tissues.
Mallory is finally starting to sit up on her own. Just for a little bit at a time and only if she is really bored...because if she sees anything exciting be it the dog, her daddy, ect she gets excited and falls over. So we are not yet at the point where she can just be sat up and not have someone right there to catch her. She also is SO enamored with Scarlet. More so then Pierce ever was. She sees her and just screams (in a good way) and reaches out to try and grab her. Not so much fun for a crabby 10 year old poodle.
Im so excited for Pierce''s birthday this weekend...and the reason is because HE is so excited. He actually GETS it this year. He knows he is going to be 3, and he knows there will be a party with cake and his family. He tells me he is going to blow out the candles after we sing to him! It is so funny. He is starting to look, sound and feel better and so far no side effects to the antibiotic that he is taking. Yesterday I scored a great deal on a Fisher Price laugh and learn house that I nabbed from someone who was taking it in to sell to Once Upon a Child...Good thing I was not really planning on it being a Christmas gift because Pierce saw it as soon as he got in the car. He was so excited to get home and play with it. He asked me where I got it and I told him at the store....his response...."Good job Mommy, Im so proud of you" It is a really cute toy and he played with it forever last night. Mallory will love it too once she is able to sit up better. On another note....yesterday when I picked Pierce up at school, he and his "girlfriend" Katie nearly knocked over the other kids to get to each other and hug goodbye. Lord help me.
Now Pierce has pink eye and an ear infection. Gross. Im really hoping we can make it through this without sharing with the rest of the family. He is on a pretty strong antibiotic to try and clear up both and the Dr said that it could cause some tummy issues or a yeast infection...super. So he is also on acidopholus to try and keep the good bacteria in him so we can avoid that. But, I guess better this weekend then next weekend on his birthday.
Basketball....not so much. We tried Pierce in pee wee basketball at the Y. I dont think it will be his forte but MAN will he make a great soccer player....yes...soccer....while all the other kids were dribbling in a line mine was footing his all over the gym....really well! Joe and I were losing it. He wanted no part of the actual skills that make up basketball but his eye foot coordination was really good! Soooo, our fee was switched over to a gymnastics class on Saturday mornings....where he can hopefully work out some of that energy! And...we are looking for a soccer team in the Spring.
It is nights like tonight that I truly think I have the 2 cutest children (aka Mr.Incredible and the Goldfish)We went to Bumma and Pa''s to trick or treat tonight. Pierce''s problem was he wanted to eat everything that went into his bag...and of course he was allergic to half of it. He did really good saying Trick or Treat and Thank You to everyone. Mallory the fish was a total trooper in her costume. She just let us carry her from door to door and smiled at everyone as usual.
I REMEMBER WHEN FALLING BACK IN THE FALL WAS FUN!!
Yeah, not so much anymore. My 5AM wake up call came at 4 this morning despite our attempt to keep him up later last night and avoid this nonsense. I remember when falling back in the fall meant an extra hour or sleep, not less sleep.
As Joy pointed out in her guestbook entry....Pierce never caught random crap when he was at her house. School sent him home...again...today before Joe could even get out of the door. It appears that Tuesday''s fever was the start of Hand Foot and Mouth disease. Just wonderful. This apparently starts as a fever and throat indection and ends up with spotty blisters on the hands and soles of the feet. Please pray that Mallory does not wind up with this, and also Christian and Levi because Pierce and Christian were all over each other this past weekend. I called school and they have to post that he has it (even though Im sure he got it THERE) and clean the rooms a little differently. If you dont know what HFT is here is a link. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/enterovirus/hfhf.htm
Im really hoping things dont get too bad.
Pierce was sent home from school yesterday with a fever of 102.3. Joe took him to the Dr and they said he has a viral throat infection, but not strep. He was miserable yesterday. Pretty much just layed around and did not do much. When I put him to bed last night he was almost in tears telling me that he mouth hurt. I knew that he meant throat so I went up to CVS quick and got him some kids throat spray which seemed to work. His fever broke sometime in the night and he is acting fine today but I still kept him home. He and I will just stay in our jammies and snuggle up together until it is time to get Mallory from school later today.
What a fun weekend Pierce and I had! We met my parents Saturday AM to go on a one night camping trip (they have an RV, I dont do tents). We really did not go far but this campground was having a lot of activities for kids all day and through the evening. We got to paint pumpkins first. And then after Pierce and Christian took naps the kids went trick or treating in their Halloween costunes. Pierce really got the hang of it this year...but he needs to learn to say trick or treat BEFORE the candy goes in not after. He would say "Thank you, Trick or Treat" when someone put something in his bag. In the evening there was a DJ and all the kids and adults got to dance. Pierce was SO funny because he made a little friend in the same costume that he had on and they ran around and played together. Before we headed back, my mom and I took Pierce, Christian and my little cousin Autumn through a haunted barn. This was not a little cheesy thing for little kids...it was done really well and was pretty scary. But we told them before going through that we had little kids with us so the people that were supposed to jump out and scare the heck out of you did not. Still...Pierce''s eyes were as big as saucers as I pointed out spiders, skelelons, and all sorts of scary things. He was not really scared, kept looking at all the things and talking to me, and then when we were done he told everyone who would listen "I did a good job in the haunted house" because I told him that. Meanwhile....the 3 little girls that came out behind us were crying! He loved sleeping with me in my parents camper. This weekend reminded me of all the times we went camping when we were little...again, in a camper...see I was a diva even back then
Every day on our way home from school Im treated to the following songs sung live by Pierce. Usually in this order...Every day.....every single day.....
-Im a little teapot
-Mary had a little lamb
-Baa baa black sheep
-The itsy bitsy spider
-Row row row your boat
-Old MacDonald (Michael Donald) had a farm
-The 2 songs that I have made up and sing to him.
I love to watch Mallory discover new things about herself and her surroundings every day. The other day it was her toes, now it is her voice. She is SO chatty (yes I know, she is her mother''s child and her brother''s sister). Once she discovered that she could make noise she pretty much has not stopped since. She is so funny with all the sounds that she makes and she just laughs at her self. I dont remember Pierce doing that as much but maybe I was just too stressed out as a new mom to actually notice. She also thinks her brother is the funniest thing ever. Yesterday Pierce was having so much fun making weird noises at her making her laugh. And he says to me "She thinks Im funny dont she?" I cant wait until they are able to really play together! In other news....Pierce''s "friend" Katie was out all last week on vacation...apparently Monday, and also yesterday they have given each other huge hugs in the morning. I also witnessed this yesterday when I picked him up and they were saying goodbye. I really need to write about Katie in his baby book so 20 years down the road I will remember his first "girlfriend"
Well there is a good reason why I try and avoid vacuuming in my house. It is not because I dont like to clean (which I dont) but it is because it causes a major relapse in Pierce''s recovery from his sweeper addiction. He has fallen off the wagon again. My girlfriend came to stay over the weekend so I cleaned house top to bottom...once the purple sweeper came out of hiding in the basement Pierce went nuts. It has yet to go back into the basement because Pierce has to carry on conversations with it every time he sees it. He even went as far as to point out it''s "eyes, nose and mouth" to my friend who was visiting who is a child psychologist (super, Im sure she has a few things to say about that). So sometime in the next few days we will have to go through sweeper detox again.
The weekend flew by for us. Friday night we spent with family to celebrate Haley and Jakob''s 6th birthday party. Pierce just loves to play with his cousins and I love to watch him do it. All of the kids play together so well. Sat Joe spent with the kids home alone while I was at the game with a college friend. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I keep saying "this will be our last warm day" so we headed off to the park where as usual Pierce made friends with the kids there and Mallory just took it all in. I did get some cute pictures of her in the swing and Joe got video of the kids too so once we figure out how to work it I will add video.
So my mom buys Mallory a beautiful canopy bed for a baby doll. We knew she would not be able to play with it for awhile yet but it was so pretty we could not pass it up. Guess who fits in it....please see the Oct 06 album.....
For the past few nights SOMEONE has preferred to be put to bed in her crib awake. We swaddle her up, put the fishy aquarium on and 5 minutes later she is out. Now I know this is a good thing...but when did my baby get so big that she wants to go to bed on her own instead of having me put her down after she is asleep? Next thing you know she will be going to prom. Okay, that might be a little dramatic....but still.
It is asthma/croup season at our house once again. And once again with the beginning of fall comes the beginning of the Dr visits. We noticed yesterday morning that Pierce had that nasty seal like cough so we both stayed home (more on that in a second) so that we could get him to the Dr to get it taken care of before it turned into full fledge croup. So he is on prednisone again....good times for us and his teachers since it pretty much makes him stick to the ceiling. I stayed home too yesterday because Mallory was running a fever from having had her shots Monday and just was not herself. Kind of crabby and miserable. But she seems much better today and back to her happy girl self.
Mallory had her 4 month checkup this morning and we got a clean bill of health where her head turning issue was concerned. She is doing well turning it on her own so we wont have to do physical therapy with her thank goodness. Other then that nothing really to report. Pierce got another call from Creative Talent. They want to finish the shoot that they were unable to do last week with the monster truck since the one little boy would not sit in it. Joe will be taking him today since he is off.
That was SO darn fun. We got there around 9 so we had to wait for the other little boy to show up. Meanwhile they picked what outfit they wanted him to wear for the first ad. I had to take 5 sets of clothes for them to pick from. The first ad was with a dancing Elmo. They picked his outfit (the Gap sweater that Aunt Jenn and Aunt Liz got him last year) and put a little (MAC) powder on his face to even his skin tone out and we went over to the studio. He got to dance around with Elmo while they took the pics. The second ad was supposed to be with this huge monster truck thing and Pierce was all about playing in that., but the other little boy not so much. He was only 18 months and would have no part of it. Because the place wanted 2 kids that one will not come out this time. He is going to be in a Big Lots flyer. The part that stunk was the lady in charge was not overly friendly….she was all business. When I asked her when I should look for the flyer in the paper she said she had no idea but if she found out when the ad comes out she would let the agency know…..she did not sound like it was a high priority in her world. So keep scanning the dispatch for Big Lots ads until you see him with Elmo!! He did really really good and of course just like everywhere we go everyone fell in love with him and he made tons of friends. My baby is officially a model! I took some pics while we were there and I will upload them later tonight.
I know I posted about 6 months ago that I sent Pierce''s pictures in to a local talent agency that hires kids out for ads that go into the paper. Well tomorrow he has his first "job". I believe the ad will be a Family Dollar ad and hopefully tomorrow I will have more details on when it will be out in the papers so we can all buy every copy in the state!! He will be making more money an hour then I will tomorrow but it should only be about an hour long shoot. Like I told my boss at work today....I would have him do autographs but he cant write yet!! So wish us luck tomorrow that he behaves himself!! I will update tomorrow when we get done!
